Burch Fellowship
The Burch Fellowship past winners talked a lot about global issues. Things like service based projects and building up the communities in other countries. These winners didn’t really speak on issues going on in the United States but more on issues that can be fixed or made better in other countries by people in the United States. They talk about poverty and how people are starving and the economics are really bad. The health care is not as updated as ours and they don’t have the medicine and other things we have here in the United States.
With the information I read on the website I thought of many different ideas that I could possibly write about. One thing I thought about writing about is Washington DC in general. But some smaller issues that are happening in Washington DC are issues like HIV and AIDs, Drug use and dealers, Rapes, and Poverty. I was thinking about writing about how these things can be fixed, or how this can be stopped from spreading in this area. One way the dramatic rise in HIV and AIDS rates can be slowed is to get people to be tested. Educate the students starting in the high schools. Motivational speakers would help a lot as well. Drug dealing and use has always been a problem in the Washington Dc area and no one really knows how to stop it but it needs to be stopped. I cant quite pinpoint what could be done but it has to be something.
Another idea I came up with is the crack cocaine law, and how its not fair the amount of time you get for selling crack than you do for cocaine when its all the same drug. This could be stopped by the government giving equal time sentences. Some people who sale crack go to jail longer than some killers. So the sentence needs to be reduced.
The last idea I came up with was Traffic in the city areas like New York, Washington Dc, Chicago, and other major cities. I think if the speed limits were raised there would be less traffic, less accidence, and fewer tickets rewarded for speeding. These are some ideas that came to mind when reading over the Burch Fellowship website.

But after the movies this random guy came up to us and was talking about the movie as we attempted to walk off he followed us and continued to talk about the movie. It was pretty funny u had to be there to witness it.

Morning Joe: John McCain
My group chose to analyze the Morning Joe clip with John McCain. Morning Joe was hosted by Joe Scarborough. This interview with John McCain happened around the end of the presidential election. These two men were both republicans. The argument in this clip was about vetoing the pork barrel projects.
John McCain wants the bill vetoed because this will only put the country on the brink of econmic disatster. He feels it is a waste of tax payers money. McCains plan will provide profit because taxpayers will be paid back first. This is a good idea but he does not explain himself. McCain does not discribe how the tax payers wil be paid back or how he is going to help the tax payers period. He also doesn't explain how he will be able to eliminate these problems.
Joe Scarborough is asking questions using evidence from the Bush administration. He talks about the deficits and spending bills that Bush used. He also talks about what must be done to change whats bring the country down.
This clip was very long and was also kind of hard to understand.

PICTURE DAY!
Yesterday was picture day! Im sorry I couldn't blog about it yesterday but just get use to everything I talk about on here being a day late. So yesterday was picture day and I hate taking pictures. We took so many pictures it was crazy. We had to take pictures as a group then individuals then action shots. How crazy is that. But it was all worth it. Now the freshman will have a place to sign in the media guide. All summer we had to sign in blank places because we didnt have a picture on posters or in the media guide. My team always makes everything fun. We're always joking around and having a good time no matter where we are. I hope it continues to be this way for the next for years.

Today in study hall!
Today in study hall I finally met my mentor/tutor. Her name is Liz and she's pretty funny! She loves to talk and likes to keep busy. I wasnt talking enough so she continuously asked me was everything ok. My assignments weren't that hard so I guess she was kinda bored with me, but my teammate Chay Shegog kept her busy asking her for help every fiive minutes. Then eventually she calmed down. Study hall went by kinda fast today but 7-9 everyday is dreadful!
First day of Pre-season workouts!!!!!
Ok so yesterday was the first day of pre-season conditioning, I meant to blog about it then but didnt get around to it so i'll talk about it today. It really wasnt as bad as thought it would be but it was bad enough. We got out of running the mile at 7am because it was raining. Then after class the HELL began. Sike. We went in the weight room for about 45mins and got a good lift in. My teammates made it fun some of them were singing and others danced. A couple tried to be serious because the coaches were there but the laughing made it go by a lot quicker. After the weight room we headed back to the gym for some conditioning and pick-up which wasn't bad at all. We played some games and called it quits. I hope all the days are like this but I know it will eventually get harder. I keep you guys posted.
